Project Description
CONVENIENT VANITIES: DRUMSTICK AND LEMON
Date: 2014
Medium: Wood, Ceramics, Applique Quilting, Butterflies and Acrylic Paint
Size: 24″ x 27″ x 22 x 6″
Description: This work combines an awareness of convenient access to foods with little nutritional value with the concept of Vanitas, a term for the inevitable fate that awaits us all. My local 7-Eleven inspired me with ice cream novelties and a cut lemon, a common symbol in Vanitas paintings. It is a food sculpture inspired by Michelle Obama’s “Let’s get moving” campaign about children’s diets.
